Staffing model in clinical practice
Staffing model is the guidelines to shedule staff to provide
patient care. Because each patient needs healthcare settings are
vary. Nurse staff model usually involves nurse to patient
ratio.
- Patient centered care is a modern culture
of care which increases the patient satisfaction along with patient
care provided. In patient centered care patient is a partner in his
own care along with the health care team and patients personal
values and preferences are essential components in plan of
care.
- Acuity based nurse staffing assigns staff
according to the intensity of the care needed for the patient . The
process will based on the clinical judgment of the intensity of
care needed , medical diagnosis and severity of symptoms.
- Primary nursing is care delivery model which
maintains continuity of care by assigning same registered nurse
from patient arrival to discharge. The registered nurse will be
responsible for the care even she is on off duty.
- Team nursing involves an RN team leader with
another RN , LPN , assistant personnel or a combination to provide
care to a group of patients. RN is responsible for the care
providing by the team.
- Modular nursing is considered an adaptation of
team nursing in which the nursing care team provides the patient
care in close physical proximity.
- A 12 - bed hospital model combines team
nursing and modular nursing to assign atleast one RN to 12 patients
. Other RNs , LPNs and UAPs are also assigned in the group with a
patient care facilitator overseeing the performance of the group
and act as a liaison.
- The total patient care delivery
model in which a RN is responsible for the
toatal care provided for all nursing care for group of patients
during a shift.
- Functional nursing divides nursing care into
tasks to be completed for a set of patients and assign nurses to
those tasks rather than individual patient.
