PLEASE ANSWER ALL 5 QUESTIONS
1. Explain why it is better to wear mittens than gloves on a cold day.
2. Why do animals that have hollow, air-filled tubes for hair have an advantage in cold climates?
3. does a tile floor feel colder than the area rug covering it?
4. Why is it better to wear several layers of clothing than one coat of equal weight?
5. New windows typically have double or even triple panes of glass with a gas (argon or krypton) trapped between the panes and coatings that reflect infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) light. In terms of heat transfer, why are these windows more
1) Gloves put more surface area in contact with cold air than mittens do. So they won't keep your hands as warm as the same amount of insulation amount of insulation in a mitten will. What's more, gloves force each finger to fend for itself. In a mitten, fingers are in direct contact with other fingers. They can share heat through the solid-object-to-solid-object process of conduction and help keep each other at a relatively stable temperature.
2)The hollow tube hair gives more insulation from the cold because the air is a poorer conductor of heat than the solid hair shaft. Polar bears have hollow shaft hairs.
3)A tile feels colder
4)becoz air is trapped in between the clothes which acts as a extra insulated layer
5)Double and triple pane windows with much higher insulating values,Single panes have a high solar transmission, but have poor insulation . Argon (and other) gas filled windows that increase insulating values above windows with just air.
