Why was William Styron's Confessions of Nat Turner problematic?
The William Styrons Confession of Nat Turner is problematuc in various sense. The Confession of Nat Turner by William Sttron was highly criticised by the black American community . It is problematic because it portrays Nat Turner who led a revolution against the slave masters and become a voice for representing the cruelty and discrimination to wgich black Americans were subjected.
It potrays Nat Turner as the reluctant warriors which is highly offensive to some African Americans fro whom Turner was a hero. William Stanley represent a gloomy picture in which he paints Turner and his followers as the villian and monsters. His book was highly problematic as it represents only one idea of the story and is completely anti to the another side of the story. It ignore the hardships and cruelty of the slave owner and regards white specially wealthy ones as novel and generous which is completely a distortion of the fact. The book limits the Turner only to sexual assault of white women. This book in a way shows thw seed of division among the readers of the book. The book is problematic beacause it present an agenda . Rather presenting and distorting fact it should be a novel that include both ideas.
