HIT or health information technology is the use of information technology such as computers in the field of healthcare. HIT helps collect, store and manage the patient's personal records, medical information and billing by using information technology system such as computers and laptops.
HIT has greatly increased the quality and  efficiency of the healthcare system. It has also resulted in reduced errors and paper work.
But with benefits HIT also has some disadvantages which are listed below:

1. Expensive : the setup and installation of information technology system is costly.
2. HIT requires employment of new staff which possess the knowledge of information technology which increases the cost of healthcare.
3. The information technology systems are prone malfunctioning due to various causes such as viruses which can result in loss of stored data.
4. The information technology systems and application are susceptible to hacking which may lead to straling of patient personal and medical information.
5. Maintaince of HIT is time consuming, complex and costly.
