The “P” gene controls flower color in pea plants. A plant with either the PP or Pp genotype has purple flowers, while a plant with the pp genotype has white flowers. What is the relationship between P and p

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer:

Genetics always helps individuals to find out genotypic relationship when a cross between two types of gene takes place. One gene is considered as dominant and the other as recessive, dominant gene is denoted by capital letter and the recessive with small letter. In the given problem trait is colour of flower that is purple (dominant) and white (recessive) based on which we need to find out genotypic relationship.Dominant colour purple is denoted as P and recessive white colour is denoted as p.PP indicates purple colour and pp indicates white colour which are crossed. When they are crossed four outcomes are resulted they are 1 PP , 2Pp and 1 pp,PP indicates purple flowers and pp indicates white colour flowers. 2 Pp which are resulted indicates purple flowers because P allele is dominant to p.So,in this problem genotype pp is white colour.

In Mendel's pea plants, the genes that code for flower color, seed color and seed shape are on 3 different chromosomes. For flower color, purple is dominant over white, yellow seeds are dominant over green and round seeds are dominant over wrinkled seeds. If you crossed two parents who were heterozygous for all 3 genes, how many purple flowered, round and yellow seeded plants would you expect in the offspring generation? correct answer is 27/64 please show work thank you

a. In a pea plant, leaf color is controlled by a gene with two alleles: a dominant allele G for green leaves, and a recessive allele g for yellow leaves. A researcher crossed a plant with green leaves with a plant with yellow leaves. All the resulting offspring had green leaves. What were the genotypes of the two parental plants? Flower color in pea plants exhibits complete dominance as the purple allele is completely dominant over the white alleles. A) Out of 276 pea plants, 273 have purple flowers. Assuming the population is in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium, calculate the Expected allele frequencies. B) A group of students counts 552 pea plants. Based on the expected allele frequencies, how many should have purple flowers and how many should have white flowers?

In a flowering plant species, snapdragons, variation in flower color is determined by a single gene. RR genotype individuals are red, Rr genotype individuals are pink, and rr genotype individuals are white. In a cross between two heterozygous (Rr) individuals, the expected ratio of red:pink:white-flowered offsprings is 1:2:1. Biologists did two cross experiments, and ask whether the results differ significantly from the expected. Part 1: The first cross experiment ends up with 40 offsprings, including 10 red, 21 pink, and...

You perform a dihybrid cross of plants. The first trait is flower color. “A” is the dominant allele and causes red petals and “a” is the recessive allele and causes white petals. Stem length is the second trait. “L” is the dominant allele and causes a long stem and “l” is the recessive allele and causes short stems. You cross a Red Long plant that is heterozygous for both traits with a Red Short plant that is heterozygous for color....
