Though environmental engineers are the specialist, but it starts right from the designing stage. Design Engineers need to strive to ensure that all material and energy inputs and outputs are as inherently nonhazardous as possible. Separation and purification operations should be designed to minimize energy consumption and materials use.
There are 12 Principles of Green Engineering that Engineer involved in the Product Life Cycle ahould use as guidelines to help ensure that designs for products, processes, or systems have the fundamental components, conditions, and circumstances necessary to be more sustainable for environment. The life cycles of materials and energy begin with acquisition (e.g., mining, drilling, harvesting) and move throughout manufacturing, distribution, use, and end of life.
