What is the maximum coefficient of performance for a heat pump if you live somewhere where the outdoor winter temperatures are -15°C and you want the inside of your house to be 23°C? If you put 1500 W of power over two hours into the heat pump, what is the maximum amount of heat you can get out of it? Find the work required if the outside temperature is 2°C and use this data to find out if heat pumps work better in super cold or just cool climates in winter.

Q9. You are analysing the performance of thermal engine, where the heat is supplied to the system at 800 °C. Heat is removed from the engine’s cycle at 300 °C. Improvements to the combustion system in the engine could push the temperature up to 920 °C. Other proposed modifications to the cooling part of the circuit could see the temperature at which heat is removed lowered to 220 °C. Analyse the performance using an idealised Carnot Cycle. A. Calculate the...

You are installing a heat pump whose COP is half the COP of a reversible heat pump. You plan to use the pump on chilly winter nights to increase the air temperature in your bedroom. Your bedroom's dimensions are 5.35 m ? 3.6 m ? 2.7 m. The air temperature should increase from 63° F to 68° F. The outside temperature is 35° F, and the temperature at the air handler in the room is 112° F. If the pump's...

What is the difference between a refrigerator and a heat pump? What is the difference between a refrigerator and an air conditioner? Define the coefficient of performance of a refrigerator in words. Can it be greater than unity? Check the specification of refrigerator or air-conditioner at your home. See if you can obtain COP of the machine. A heat pump that is used to heat a house has a COP of 2.5. That is, the heat pump delivers 2.5 kWh...

Suppose you own a house where you live and a condo for rent. The monthly rent is $1,600 and you will get it at the end of each month. Yet you have to pay maintenance fees and insurance premium. They are $600 per month in total. The property tax is proportional to the (present) value of the property. The tax rate is 0.1% per month and you pay the tax every month on the last day of each month with...

Imagine that the local Chamber of Commerce where you live has learned that you are taking this course. They have asked you to come and be a guest lecturer about health system reform; specifically they are very curious about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010. For this assignment, create a 9 – 12 slide PowerPoint solely related to healthcare reform. Be sure to focus on the PPACA. Use the notes section of the PowerPoint as needed.
