What obstacles do older adults face when trying to maintain an active state? What aspects of society at large discourage physical activity in older adults?
There are various factors which the old age faces when trying to maintain an active life. Old age is generally the age when all type of chronic disorders are common and they have to undergo treatment to reduce or maintain the balance of their body.
Some of the major disease affected by the elder hood is hypertension, Diabetes etc.
Some important issues faced by old are people are
Reduced muscle strength which in turn causes reduced physical activity.
Reduced cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency and high probability of getting cardiovascular disorders.
Moreover there are myths which society have on the older age group which prevents them from leading an active life.
There is a general concept that people believe that all old age groups are weak and are not capable to even do their daily routine activities, Since such comments normally influence the psychological wellbeing of the old age and there by thy normally acts like weal.
There is a concept among society that once people get older there is no requirement of physical exercise and even if they do physical exercise it may harm their body.
Most of the people in society have promoted the trend that old age Is for sedentary activities such as reading books or socialization
Many sport activities promotes younger generation to attend which make older generation feel unwelcome
