There are challenging experiences in my life
Before explaining about that I would like to tell about the core values which are divided in to four; caring, integrity, diversity and excellence. Among this, caring and integrity influenced me in nursing practice and while interacting with others. Caring is a fundamental part of nursing profession by our commitment to the vulnerable people and giving consideration and concern for whole person. When talk about integrity, it is evident with open communication, decision making and true commitment.
- The core value were challenged in my experience is caring and integrity
Once a patient was admitted for delivery who is primi gravida. Her family were considered about normal delivery. I was her caretaker since admission and did my part in aspect of care as much as I can. Patient had undergone a lot of pain for more than 12 hours. Even the doctor who had treated her tried to convince family to go for caesarean section due to poor cervical dilatation. But the family still refused to go for it even after explained the fact what was happening. The whole team were allowed the family to take a proper decision and even they refused to go for treatment what the team advised. During this period, I was able to support with her by act as a bystander, to provide what she asks for and psychologically encouraged her.
Finally, the family realised and given consent to do c-section. While c-section patient had cardiac arrest after baby has taken out due to excess loss of fluids from her body. Code blue announced, fortunately nothing went wrong & she got saved.
To summarize, caring is mentioned only after the patient had saved and good decision making from whole team made positive feedback to hospital and care giver.
- This experience was a lesson to other professionals and through inpatient education, the importance of core values were mentioned.
- From this, I learned that how important are caring and proper decision making. Because after patient overcome the situation, her family were appreciated the team who had given care to patient.
Be good care taker and decision maker.
