Explain how extracellular matrix glycoproteins are produced, modified and moved to and eventually placed within the EC matrix.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Proteins are found in and around the cell the glycoproteins are the protein s which have sugar attached to them .sugars are attached in two places endoplasmic reticulum and golgi appartusapand hence are called n linked and o linked sugars.t he carbohydrate are attached to protein to forma glycoprotein the proteins are generally glycosylated as thy are extracellular and this process is called as glycosylation.

Glycoproteins of cytoplasm and nucleus can be modified through reversible addition of GlcNAc residue that is reciprocal to phosphorylation and can be considered in phosphorylation signalling while classical glycosylation is structurally essential. Their are different types of glycosylation I.e n glycosylation (nitrogen)

Oglycosylation(oxygen)

P glycosylation( phosphorus)

C glycosylation(carbon)

Out of which n and o glycosylation are the most common.

Ecm is a collection of extracellular molecules which gives structural and biochemical support to cell .it's function is cell to cell communication and adhesion.fibronectin and glycoprotein helps the cell to move through ecm

Fibronectin bind to collagen n hence alter the cell cytoskeleton for the easy movement of the cell . fibronectin help at the time of wound healing by clotting the blood and facilitating the movement of cell.
