For a set of ungrouped or individual observations, the sum of the deviations of all observations from the mean is:
a. |
the standard deviation |
|
b. |
the interquartile range |
|
c. |
the median |
|
d. |
zero |
|
e. |
the sum of all the observations |
Zero
When deviations are taken from the mean, and then they are added, in the negative values and the positive values are cancelled out resulting in the total sum equal to zero. It is not equal to standard deviation because it is the square root of variance and it is not zero always. Median is also the middle value and it is not zero. However the sum of deviations of observations from the mean is always zero
