What is median of a set of data? How is median represented for a set of n observations when
i) n is odd,
ii) n is even.
iii) weighted median of frequency distribution
Median is one of the commonly used measures of central tendency. Median of a set of n observations is the middle most value when the values are arranged in order of magnitude (increasing or decreasing).
i) n is odd:
if n is odd the median will be the
(n+1)/2 th term.
i) n is even:
if n is even then median will be the
1/2 {(n/2)th term + (n/2 + 1)th term}.
iii) Weighted median:
in frequency distribution N = ∑fi; the cumulative frequency is calculated and the middle result in the ordered frequency table represents median.
Median is one of the commonly used measures of central tendency. Median of a set of n observations is the middle most value when the values are arranged in order of magnitude (increasing or decreasing).
