Solutions

Expert Solution

THE changes in life have a dramatic effect on four phases of pharmacokinetics-drug aborpton, distribution, metabolism, and excretion

ABSORPTION

due to weakened gastro intestinal movement in the elderly and slow gastric emptying rate drugs stay longer in gastrointestinal tract, which is conducive to greater drug absorption

DISTRIBUTION

DUE TO decreased amount of plasma proteins, when the same dose of drug is used in elderly and young people ,the seniors have high level of free state and greater functionality

METABOLISM

For most of the seniors it is not common to have changes in liver function index but the activity of drug metabolism enzyme in the liver is decreased so that the HAIF -LIFE of the drug is prolonged-elderly are more prone to toxic reactions

DRUG EXCRETION

KIDNEY IS THE MAIN ORGAN INVOLVED IN DRUG EXCRETION

changes may results from reduced kidney functionality. It is most important factor in poroducing toxic drug reactions in elderly
