It is very important for a nurse to teach their patient who is preparing for a child birth.

The 5 P's stands for :

Passenger, Power, Passage, Position, Psyche.

How 5 P's of labor enhance and facilitate the progress of labor :

  • It will explain the patient the type of pelvis they are having and why it is so much important when it comes to giving birth.
  • It also helps to plan out the best option to give birth for example in case of cephalopelvis disproportion which means the size of the baby is bigger than the pelvis, it is best to go for cesarean section.
  • It helps in locating the body parts of the child whether it is a vertex ir a breech birth.
  • It educates the mother about false contractions which occurs before the true contractions, it is also known as Braxton Hicks Contraction.
  • It encourages the relationship between the mother and the father as it is a special moment for both the parents, it is very important that they should support each other.
  • It helps the mother to prepare for child birth.
  • It reduces the anxiety, which helps in subtle child birth.
