You are entrusted with the task of coming up with an action plan to reduce the possibility of hospital acquired infections at Madison Community Hospital. You note that compliance with the Hand Hygiene program is neither high nor uniform among different units in the institution
What would be the key steps in your action plan? Why? What measures and metrics would you use to assess the effectiveness of your recommended action plan?
There are common and very often cases of hospital aquired infections these are reffered as nossocomial infections, as there are chances of unwareness regarding personal hygine in hospitals involving helathcare staff, physicians, surgents as well as patients , as observed inMadison community hospital.
Further it is seen that there is MRSA, a strain of the staph bacteria that is highly resistant to drugs ordinarily used to treat staph infections.
Hence Madison Community Hospital had plan to addresses Infection Control & Prevention strategies as:
MRSA infections are found in people in hospital or other health
care settings.
In such cases, the infection is usually linked with an invasive
procedure involving surgery, intravenous tubing, or artificial
joints and so many other medical treatments.
Moreover MRSA can cause a variety of complications in patient
recovery, including death.
as the Hospitals across the nation have facing the problem with
increase in MRSA outbreaks.
Through the study it is seen that at Madison Community Hospital, healthcare workers are not washing their hands as per the defined protocol while enter & exit in patient rooms, which is a very serious problem.
Hence to handle such drastic condition there is need to set an action plan to reduce the possibility of hospital acquired infections at Madison Community Hospital along with introduction of many other profesional and awreness programmes.
As per my opinion the plan should be as such:
In my opinion to prevent MRSA outbreaks at Madison Community Hospital, the best solution is that all employees should wash their hands at least for one minute during every patient interaction.
Furthermore the detail action plan covers the following points in my opinion.
· There should be a policy that staff has to apply hand sanitizer before entering patients' rooms.
· Washing hands
for at least one minute using antibacterial soaps during every
patient interaction.
Educating staff to check their hands under a black light machine
located near patient rooms.
· Counseling/training/ promoting the staff regarding the importance of washing hands to prevent the spread of disease.
· Further in plan allocation of posters near sinks to encourage hand washing.
· It should be
habit of employees to wash their hands every time they enter a
patient's room and every time they exit a patient's room.
At the last to achieve this goal, I plan to add new washing stations to every floor where patient rooms are located in well manner.
Additionally, I plan to install timers at each wash station to
ensure that employees are washing their hands or not for prescribed
time.
Hence in my view by adopting and implementing the plan as discussed above there will be effective management regarding the spread of MRSA all over the Madison Community Hospital.
