Clearly describe the differences between annelids, nematodes, and platyhelminthes.
Ans- Annelids :
- Segmented/ sectioned bodies, bilateral symmetry.
- Annelids called as segmented worms.
- Habitat- moist soil, fresg water or salt water.
- complete digestive tract with two opening ( mouth and anus).
- They are coelomate- form from coelom ( fluid filled space surrounded by mesoderm ).
- Examples of annelids are earthworm and leeches.
Nematodes :
- Nematodes show bilateral symmetry.
- Nematodes also called as round worms.
- Habitat - wet soil or water.
- Complete digestive tract with two opening ( mouth and anus).
- They are pseudocoelomate- develop from three layers, with space between endoderm and mesoderm called pseudocoelom.
- Examples are hookworms, pinworms etc.
Platyhelminthes :
- They show bilateral symmetry. Their bodies are flat and thin.
- Also called flatworms.
- They are parasitic- live inside a host or water.
- They have only one digestive opening. ( Pharynx).
- They are acoelomate - develop from three layers but have no body cavities.
- Examples are Tapworms, flukes, planaria etc.
