Given the observed longwave radiation (incoming and outgoing) and the observed shortwave radiation (incoming and outgoing) how would you calculate the observed albedo?
Thank you for asking. Let's solve this.
Observed net shortwave radiation = Observed incoming - observed outgoing.
Observed net longwave radiation = Observed incoming - observed outgoing
We are given, - observed net longwave radiation and observed net shortwave radiation.
So, Net all wave radiation = Net shortwave radiation+ Net longwave radiation...., (1)
Albedo = Outgoing shortwave radiation/ Incoming shortwave radiation.
So, Outgoing shortwave radiation= Albedo * Incoming shortwave radiation.
Net shortwave radiation = Incoming radiation(1- albedo)
Putting this in equation (1)-
Net all wave radiation = Incoming shortwave radiation(1-albedo)+ observed net longwave radiation
=> 1- albedo = Net all wave radiation - Observed net longwave radiation / Incoming shortwave radiation
=> Albedo = 1 - {( Net all wave radiation- Observed net longwave radiation) / Incoming shortwave radiation}
I hope this will help you. In case if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I'll be more than happy to explain. Thanks again.
