What is the difference in the skin between necrosis and gangrene?
Difference between Necrosis and Gangrene
1) Necrosis basically refers to a type of injury of cell where the permature death of cell occurs. It is an irreversible cell injury and death of the cell of organism. Whereas Gangrene refers to death of an Organ or tissue due to improper blood supply. This implies that the organ or tissue is not getting sufficient supply of Oxygen.
2) Necrosis occurs due to external factors ( like excess low or high temperature, trauma) and internal factors ( like injury to blood vessel or nerve cell ). Whereas Gangrene caused due to reduced amount of blood supply ( below critical level ) to particular tissue or organ.
3) Necrosis causes swelling of the cell, shrinkage of nucleus and loss of cell membrane of the particular cell that is infected. Whereas Gangrene causes narrowing of lumen of arteries due to deposition of cholesterol and other substances which reduces blood supply to organs and tissues.
4) Necrosis results into the infection of a single cell. Whereas Gangrene results into infection of group of cells( tissue or Organ ).
