Angiosperms developed most recently in plant evolution but show the greatest diversity in the number of species, structures, and enviromnental adaptations in spite of being in existence the shortest amount of time. What is an advantage the flower brings to success of this group of plants?

The advancement of angiosperms is the structure responsible for sexual reproduction. The function of sexual reproduction is to bring together genetic material from two individuals of differing ancestry, so that the offspring will have a new genetic makeup.

  • Angiosperms are able to grow in a variety of habitats. They can grow as trees, shrubs, bushes, herbs, and small flowering plants.
  • With the evolution of bright colors, nectors and scents ,the flowers attract animals. So these flower seeking animals such as butterflies, bees and humming birds would accidently perform pollination.
  • closed carpels allow seeds to develop enclosed within a fruit protecting seeds from desiccation as they grow and mature, and aids in the dispersal of seeds.
  • Double fertilization results in the production of endosperm, a nutritive tissue that feeds the developing embryo.
  • A great advantage for angiosperms is the production of endosperm. Endosperm is a material that forms after fertilization and serves as a highly nutritional food source for the developing seed and seedling.
  • Angiosperms makes their photosynthesis in an efficient way because it has a huge amount of stomata (brings lots of CO2 ) and veins (move sugars around very easily).This led the plant groups spread faster than other plants. And we , humans breathe O2 and breathe out CO2 .Because angiosperms photosynthesize so much, they are some of the best oxygen makers around.
