Does it still make sense to you to start counting people as either in or out of the labor force at 16 years old, or do you think this age is unrealistic in our modern society?
This is a paradox concept. But before that it is necessary to understand the meaning of labour force.
In many economy people between the age of 16 to 64 years who are willing to employed and emplyed are considered as labour force.
Now in today's era whether there is lot of need of labour force due to increase in the demand, techonological develeopment, competition etc, it is also true that we need skilled and trained people. Which are scarce so by this view it is unrealistic to get 16 years age as labour force because people dont complete there formal studies or any kind of vocational training by this age.
But as we know we need lots of labour force in a cheaper rate too, also there is increasing rate of unemployement in every economy, the companies and industries are easily find the labour due to the young age of labour force, so by this view it can be possible to consider 16 years as age of labour force entry.
