Question 4 Part A: If you were to extract your own DNA would you expect it to look different from your plant DNA extract? Why or why not?

Solutions

Expert Solution

They look similar, because both of them are double stranded. But the differences between plant and animal dna lies in the sequence of bases in the helix.Substances and compounds found in plant cells are absent in animal cells, also dna base sequences reflects this.Genomic plant dna is very large as compared with animal dna. This differences affect the extraction methods, purification methods and the yield of dna.Plant dna is more difficult to extract than animal dna, because of the presence of the cell wall. Also the metabolites present in the plant cell will interfere with genomic dna extraction process by contaminating the sample during precipitation. In animal dna extraction, sample collection is the more difficult process.

They looks similar in shape is because of the double helix and they are made from the same four chemical building blocks called nucleotides.Main difference between both are how the four nucleotides are arranged.Their sequence that determines which proteins will be made.

1.) You can easily extract DNA from a strawberry. This is in part due to the fact that strawberries are octaploid so they have a lot of DNA in them, just this alludes to a disconnect between plant biologists/growers and the average consumer. When the general public were asked the following two questions there was a major disconnect between their understanding of basic biology. Question 1.) Does a regular tomato contain DNA? Consumers were likely to answer “No.” Question 2.)...
