Summarize the 11 principles of organization. Its from the book managing criminal justice organization 2nd edition criminology
The eleven principles of organization have an application in all public sector organizations. The summary of these principles could be as follows-
The organizational tasks should be grouped on the basis of their similarity, temporality, spatiality and the level of authority required. One person must be held responsible for the same. Only when the organization has enough people who have the caliber and ability to handle smaller units, more specialized smaller units must be made. Roles, responsibilities and duties of each single unit must be clearly defined and there should be effective and clear communication patterns between the units and the line of authority. Terminology used to describe things and tasks and structure of the units in terms of authority must be clear and specific and devoid of any ornamental language. Each units should be accountable to a single authoritative person, so that different instructions are not given by different people at different times for the same job. The person in authority must be competent to handle units under him/her and should be able to plan, execute and control the units under him/her. There needs to be a higher authority above each unit. The authority must be able to singlehandedly execute the tasks and should take the onus of both the success and failure of a task.
Overall, it may be concluded that the line of authority must be clear, well defined, competent and responsible within an organization. such principles if followed and adhered will be beneficial for the organization to achieve its purpose of providing satisfactory services to its customers.
