what are the similarities and differences between henry James boom"Daisy Miller" and the film "daisy miller" directed by peter Bogdabovich? which one is better and why? explain in 2 paragraphs
Translating book to movies have always been daunting tasks for the film makers, as most of the times, the essence of the classic novel is lost, but here, Peter Bogdanovich seemed to have retained the essence. In the novella, the narration was from the perspectives of Winterbourne, but in the movie, there has been a narrative aspect, Winterbourne hasn’t seemed to be as crisp as the novel. In the novel, there seems to be a one dimensional aspect to the character of Daisy, where the depth of emotions hasn’t been shown in an elaborate manner. But, in the movie, there is a representation of the flaws that the charming bloodless original holds.
Peter Bogdanovich has been able to bring up the glimpse of contradictions and hypocrisies that is present in the past. The movie turned out so well that it was able to manage and depict the various shades of daisy’s characters, starting from spontaneity to thoughtlessness to recklessness and innocence. The movie was named as one of the best 11 movies of the year by Vincent Canby. In my opinion the movie is better more so because of the depth in character of Daisy portrayed correctly.
