Pars distalis is a part of pituitary gland.
Pituitary gland is an endocrine gland and has two parts which are anterior pituitary and posterior pituitary .
Anterior pituitary also called adenohypophysis has 3 parts
a)pars tuberalis
b)pars intermedia
c)pars distalis
Posterior pituitary also called neurohypophysis has
a)infundibular stalk
b)pars nervosa
Pars distalis has 2 types of cells
a)chromophobe cells -50 %
b)chromophil cells -50%
Chromophil cells include acidophils 40% and basophils-10%
Acidophils include somatotrope and lactotrope .
Basophils include thyrotrope ,gonadotrope ,cortocotrope.
Peptide harmones secreted by pars distalis are
1.GH(growth hormone)- by somatotrope
2.prolactin - by lactotrope
3.TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone)-by thyrotrope
4.FSH(follicle stimulating hormone)- by gonadotrope
5.LH(luteinizing hormone)-by gonadotrope
6.ACTH(adrenocorticotropic homone)- by cortocotrope.
