A university administrator expects that 25% of students in a
core course will receive an A. He looks at the grades assigned to
60 students. a. What are the expected value and the standard error
for the proportion of students that receive an A? b. Use an
appropriate normal transformation to calculate the probability that
the percentage of students that receive an A is 20% or less. c. Use
an appropriate normal transformation to calculate the probability
that the proportion...

University students should pay the full cost of their studies
because a university education benefits individuals rather than
society as a whole. To what extent do you agree or disagree with
this opinion?
– Decide where you stand; agree or disagree. State in the thesis
statement your stand.
– List out all the reasons on why you chose to agree/disagree (
2,3 reasons is enough)
– Explain with example or facts all these reason
– Conclusion; restate your stand and...

a previous study of a large cross-section of students in this
course showed that students studies 12 hours per week. Are the
results of this current study statistically different than the
assumption of 12 hours per week studying? Define the hypotheses and
compare the t-value to the critical t value, evaluating at α =
0.05.

polled regarding the number of hours they spent studying for the

A study of North York University students showed the mean age of
all students in the first year of university to be 19.6 years old
with a standard deviation of 1.06 years. A randomly selected
subgroup of these first-year students also averaged 19.4 years in
age with a standard deviation 1.05 years.
a) Are the numbers 19.6 and 1.06 statistics or parameters?
Explain.
The numbers are parameters because they were calculated for all
North York University's first-year students.
The numbers...

The University is trying to decide whether to implement a
mandatory remedial math course for students with low test scores
upon admissions. Historically, students with low admissions test
scores have failed their first math course 61% of the time. A
random sample of students with low scores is selected and assigned
to a remedial math course. These students are tracked and it is
found that 102 out of 175 of them still fail their first regular
math course.
If...

Students enrolled in an introductory statistics course at a
university were asked to take a survey that indicated whether the
student’s learning style was more visual or verbal. Each student
received a numerical score ranging from -11 to +11. Negative scores
indicated a visual learner, and positive scores indicated a verbal
learner. The closer the score was to -11 or +11, the stronger the
student’s inclination toward that learning style. A score of 0
would indicate neutrality between visual or...

3. The Idaho State University athletics department conducted a
research study to see how many students attended a women’s lacrosse
game last season. There are 14,400 students attending Idaho State
University, and the study showed that 400 of 1250 students sampled
attended a women’s lacrosse game. What inferences can be made about
student attendance at women’s lacrosse games?
(a) What is the estimated proportion for the population?
(b) Using the 95% level of confidence, what is the confidence
interval?

A study of able-bodied female students at the University
of Illinois found that their times for the mile run were
approximately normal with mean 7.11 minutes and standard deviation
0.74 minutes.

for the mile X. What is the probability her mile run time was no
more than 6 minutes? Sketch a graph of this situation and shade the
appropriate region.
