Below are a set of heights (in inches) and GPA scores for a
sample of 6 students.
Height, GPA
60, 4.0
55, 3.2
62, 3.7
55, 3.9
49, 2.4
61, 2.7
Based on this data, what is the GPA prediction for a student who is 56 inches tall? Is your GPA estimate of a 56 inch student reliable?
Let's use minitab:
Step 1) First enter the given data set in minitab columns.
Step 2) Click on Stat>>>Regression>>>General regression...
Response: select GPA
Model: select Height
then click on OK and again Click on OK
So we get the following minitab output
From the above output the regression equation is GPA = - 0.37 + 0.0648 Height
Put Height = 56, in the above equation
GPA = - 0.37 + 0.0648*56 = 3.2588
Is your GPA estimate of a 56 inch student reliable?
The estimate of GPA based on the regression equation for given Height = 56 is not reliable.
Because the p-value = 0.331 which is very height ( > 0.05). So we conclude that the GPA does not depend on height.
