Risk management team is a team comprises of group of of people in an organisation, who identify the risk in communication, procurement, quality controlling and staffing. Risk management team in health care settings and in public health , focuses on identifying, mitigating or preventing the risks in healthcare settings. Risk management is the process of determining the risk to and from a proposed activity or service by using Risk assessment techniques , and developing the strategies to mitigate the risks or preventing the risk in future and also ensuring patient as well as the organisation's safety.

Role of Risk management team in health care settings and public health:

There are a number roles and responsibilities for the Risk management team in an organisation especially in healthcare settings, such as:

* Identify the risks and estimating the upsides and negative outcomes of it.

* Communicating with the healthcare management and other stakeholders regarding the risk and documenting it.

* Prioritize the risks and its level of severity

* Developing the plan of action, if incase the risk become an actual problem.

* Develop policies, process and also procedures to face or deal with the assessed risks.

* Thorough investigation in case of any unanticipated event especially related to patient safety ( such as patient death due to an error in medical care) and immediate steps to prevent such events.

* Report and record all types of sentinel events related to patient safety and safety of healthcare workers. For example: cross infection to the healthcare staff , medication errors and mistakes in surgeries.

* Use of various Risk assessment techniques and the use of systems that contains the tools for tracking, documenting and systematically analysing or comparing the risks with other organization or industry. For example: Robust Risk management Information system.

* Documenting and reporting patient's or family's complaints and try to improve the patient satisfaction by dealing with the issue.

* Training and education for the employees to prevent the risk on health care organisations ( through the correct use of resources by employees) and on patient safety and quality care.
