Mass transit which can be also called as public transportation
or mass transportation is a movement of people from one place to
another through buses, trains and metros.
There are many advantages of public transportation, that many
people can be carried together from one place to another which
results in lower cost of carrying each person and with greater
efficiency.
But apart from the benefits there are numerous hindrances for
the transportation authorities which they face while supplying
these transportation benefits to the people.
These are-
- Capital investments are getting
difficult day by day as the government is facing difficulties in
managing their own funds and most of the public transporters depend
on the government for funds for their operations and therefore it
is resulting in greater difficulties for the government as there
are no funds left for the public transportation.
- Besides other sectors, the
transportation sector is unable to adopt new technologies and
unable to move with the advancement of technologies. The lack of
capital is the main hindrance because of which there is a lack of
legacy systems.
- Inadequacy of public
transportation- sometimes there is overuse of the public transport
and sometimes under use of the public transportation system.
Planning for peak capacity sometimes leaves the system highly
unused at the time of peak off hours as low ridership makes
services unstable. And sometimes congestion during peak
hours.
- Almost every public transit
system is unable to generate sufficient income even to cover its
operating costs.
- Data analytics is nowadays
considered very important, so that there can be easy access to
data. But public transports didn't have this infrastructure to keep
every detail of its passengers and other travel information.
These were some of the main hindrances which almost every public
transportation facility faces in supplying its service.
