Should countries with weak human rights records be placed under economic embargoes, or some type of political or economic sanction? Can the world community both respect national sovereignty and press counties for greater human rights? How is this best done, and what are the roles of government, of the UN, and of nongovernmental human rights organizations?
I think Yes, the countries with weak human rights records should be placed under economic embargoes and it should be accompanied by some kind of political and economic sanction as well.
Wolrd community can respect national sovereignty and can press countries for greater human rights because the world is global now. All countries should work towards making this whole earth a better place to live for all. On the other side, if there is no value for human rights in any country, the people may take wrong steps which may be a huge loss for the whole world and it is the responsibility of us to stop the wrong and support the right.
The best to do so is to form regulations for all the countries as we have for the trade formerd by WTO. All caountries should unite on this aspect as well. The role of govt. is to maintain human rights and fighting for the people if they are harmed or not given their rights. Govt. should act as an active entity and there should be strict rules by the govt. against people who don't care about human rights or disobey the law. UN may be an interfering or guiding body in it. And it should keep a check on all the countries so they have proper regulations of human rights. Various non govt. organisations (NGOs) have the responsibility to raise the voice of people who are not able to speak due to some reason. They should work as an entity between govt. and people or the UN and the people.
