Do you think that governments should consider human rights when granting preferential trading rights to countries? What are the arguments for and against taking such a position? Provide examples
Yes, the governments should consider the human rights while granting preferential trading rights to the country. Protection of human rights is an essential essence of foreign policy for many of the countries. It may improve the policies for human rights of the other countries with which they are trading with. It is ethically a correct way to start the trading procedure ahead with other countries.
Myanmar is quite appropriate example for the same. US imposed many trade sanctions with Myanmar due to weaker human rights of the country, but when the country started working on betterment of their human rights, US decided to open all the trade sanctions with the country.
Another best example for the same is African, Caribbean and Pacific states. The importance for human rights and other various values related to democracy has decreased in these regions, abuses for the human rights continue to occur which has also affected the preferential trade rights of the country in relation to trading with the other countries.
