If determinism is true, can individuals be morally responsible for their actions? Must agents have free will to be morally liable for their behavior? Can you think of examples when someone's upbringing and enviornment might reduce their moral responsibility?
SUBJECT PHILOSOPHY
Determinism is a concept that attributes one’s behaviours to the already existing factors such as parents, religion, culture etc. thus undermining the influence of one’s free will. Free will on the other hand refers to an individual’s ability to overcome all the existing constraints and decide for themselves. If determinism is true, then individuals cannot be held responsible for their actions only on the moral ground but legal system considers each individual as individual entity and holds them responsible for their actions. People who are brought up in an environment where the parents do not follow moral principles in their life thus the children also wouldn’t follow that. Some communities who are affected by social injustice would fight using violent means to fight for their survival and their children would follow suit.
