n a recent opinion piece, David Brooks said that schools tend to "treat students like heads on sticks." His point was that schools look too narrowly at educating students. Do you agree that areas of education have been neglected, and if so, which areas. If you don't agree (or if you do agree), what strengths do you see in the current educational system.
Rational brain is not as important as the desiring character in us. And therefore treating students in a way that aims at creating voluntary lifelong learners is what the need of the hour is. The need to being and connecting is something that is universal in human beings. It has been observed that emotional touch leads to the development of brain well. Lonely people and the ones with lesser meaningful relationships are more likely to suffer with dementia at a later point in their lives. We are imprisoned by this desire for unity as people, with the aim of rising above the self and experiencing a higher nature of self. The yearning soul is of infinite value and it aims at righteousness. The meaning and purpose of life is something that is not focused upon by the education system. This makes students and young learners to never become familiar with this side of themselves. If we focused merely on ourselves, different new cultures that aim at the higher good of human beings in general would not have progressed. This includes the wave of feminism and fight against racialism and discrimination. Higher rates of loneliness, depression, suicide rates, drug addiction and spread of distrust have been noticed lately across the world. Therefore, what essentially is happening is that due to a lack of familiarization with a higher purpose to life, people are suffering in very many ways. Yes, I do agree that these different schools of thought and perspectives are not shown to the youth while they are building their academic foundation and moving towards readiness to face the world.
