Identify an important single invention or discovery that may be responsible for the wide acceptance and use of diagnostic ultrasound today. Choose an invention and explain why this invention can contribute to the popularity in the application of ultrasound in the medical field.
Discovery of ultrasonography by Italian biologist, Lazzaro Spallanzani can be considered as an important single discovery that may be responsible for the wide acceptance and use of diagnostic ultrasound today.
I will choose two inventions that can significantly contribute to the popularity in the application of ultrasound in the medical field.
Doctors have always used ultrasound as a tool to create flat and clear images of the human body for identification and diagnosis. However, a recent progress in the field of ultrasound has made it possible to develop an acoustic hologram of human body. It is said that this invention will take the present healthcare system to a different level in the future. Practically, this invention will not only help in creating a far more superior image of human body but will also help in ultrasound treatments through improved focus.
Another significant invention that is going to change the perspective of medical world is the invention of ultrasonic helmets for blind people. Just the way bats use ultrasonic waves to identify the obstacles on their way, these helmets helps in sending as well as converting the reflected ultrasonic waves into sound energy compatible with human tendency to hear and create an image of overall surrounding inside their brain. In future, it is expected that scientist will be able to convert these helmets into glasses and serve the mankind in a better way.
