H0: Soap opera acting is the same difficulty as sitcom acting
Ha: Soap opera acting is harder than sitcom acting
Describe what a Type I error would look like in the context of this scenario.
SOLUTION
For solving the problem first we need a general awareness about the Type I error and Type II error.
Type I error : It is an error occured when the rejection of null hypothesis when it is true. That is the null hypothesis is actually true but we reject it. Or we can say that error occured when we accept the alternative hypothesis when the null hypothesis is true. This kind of error is called Type I error.
Type II error : This type of error occured when we fail to reject the false null hypothesis as the result of a test procedure. That is the error when we accept a null hypothesis but the alternative hypothesis is true.
Now let us consider the given problem. The hypothesis are
H0: Soap opera acting is the same difficulty as sitcom acting
Ha: Soap opera acting is harder than sitcom acting
Now let us compare the above definition with this scenerio. Type I error is occured when the rejection of true null hypothesis. So in this scenerio Type I error occurs when rejecting H0 When it is true. That is we accept that Soap opera acting is harder than sitcom acting but the acting is the same difficulty as sitcom acting. In other words we reject that Soap opera acting is the same difficulty as sitcom acting when it is correct.
