Vietnam is a country with significance importance among south east Asian nations. It was under Chinese rule till 10th century A.D which influenced it both socially and politically. After that Vietnam began to expan its territory by annexing towards south mainly the ones belonging to Champa civilization (central Vietnam). In the socialist era foreign culture influences were shunned and the emphasis was given to promote and praise the culture of China Soviet Union Cuba. Some of the important symbols that are present in Vietnamese culture include dragons, turtles, lotuses and bamboo etc.
Culture & Society
The teachings of Confucius describe the position of each individual in the society. Confucianism is a system of behaviors and ethics that stress the obligations of people towards one another based upon their relationship. It can be between husband and wife, brother and sister, parents and child, friends etc.
Religion and Family
Buddhism is the only main religion in the country and both the Theravada and the Mahayana coexist. Many of them live in extended or joint families keeping in mind the importance of the family members.
Marriage
There are two ceremonies during any marriage. The first is an engagement celebration in which the groom and family visit the bride and bring them presents.The date of wedding is decided that time. On wedding, the couple prays at an altar, and a reception is held. This is quite similar to a Hinduism wedding.
Clothing
The national dress of Vietnam is considered to be Ao Dai. It consists of a gown with long splits on the sides that go up till the waist. The trousers are worn beneath them that almost touch the ground. But nowadays most people have started wearing the western attire.
The centuries of combining traditions and foreign influences have shaped it into a nation full of culture and values. Among other things, this beautiful nation of south east Asia is known for its hospitality, mannerism, and delicious food.
