Malnutrition is a major health problem faced by the human. Malnutrition means the person eat more or less nutrient than he or she need. It will lead to major health problems. Lifestyle, diet, socioeconomic status, genetics etc are the factors lead to malnutrition.
Health consequences assosiatd with malnutrition are:
Weight loss/obesity; Malnutrition means more or less nutrient absorbed than he wants. If the person consume more food or nutrient it will cause obesity. It will lead to major health problems mostly comorbidities. And also obesity leads to strock and heart diseases due to atherosclerosis. If the person consume less than required nutrition it will cause weight loss. Which affect the entire body systems.
Immune deficency: Immunity power also affected by malnutrition. Altered function of immune system due to the impairment of cell mediated immunity. This will lead to severe infections. The infection will easily transmitted to other parts of body. And also see a delay in healing of wounds.
Gastrointestinal function: Severe malnutrition causes alteration in gastric tract function.. Most of the malnurished people are suffer from intestinal disorders and pancreatic disorders or endocrine disorders.
Cardi-respiratory function: Decreased cardiac muscle mass seen in malnurished persons. It will affect the pumping function of heart and reduce the blood pumping. And also the respiratory muscles mainly diaghramatic and respiratory muscles get weak and reduced cough pressure lead to accumilation of sputum in the lungs and lead to respiratory tract infections.
Psychosocial effects: Due to the changes from normal appearence social withdrawal is common in malnutrition patients. And also the psychological problems due to this social withdrawal and change in physical aappearence.
