what are the activities we can use with preschoolers to teach them math espcially in the kitchen?
To teach maths to preschoolers we have to do many things in the kitchen :-
1.Counting - First we have to begin with counting. Ask the child to count number of eggs adding to a recipe, count chocolate chips, beans, apples etc by making them into a group of ten. Ask the child to count how many cups of flour added to a bowl, how many times we stir the batter etc. Once the child count up to ten easily then aim for counting to twenty. Like wise teach the child to count hundred by tens.
2. Addition - preschoolers doesn't memorize math facts. Understand the child that combing two groups of things makes a bigger one.
3. Subtraction - Like addition understand the child while removing things from a group make it small.
4.Fractions - Fractions are easy to taught in the kitchen with sandwiches, pies, pizzas etc. To teach the child what a half is, divide everything into half. Once half is solidified introduce quarters. Like wise move on to other fraction methods.
5.Size - First introduce the child, the concept of big versus small by arranging simple things by size.
6.Shape - From fruits, vegetables, breads or from any other things the child will be able to understand the concept of shape
