I am curious if there is a preference for Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, or Firefly among students at Pierce College. I ask 300 students to choose which they prefer. Below are the results. Conduct a χ² square to determine if there is a preference. Use an alpha (Type 1 error rate) = .05.

Star Wars

Battlestar Galactica

Doctor Who

Firefly

I only watch Sitcoms and Reality TV

a. What are the null hypothesis and alternative hypotheses?

b. Create a table for expected scores.

c. Compute χ² and report both the critical value and whether the p-value is greater or less than alpha.

d. Based on these data, should you reject the null hypothesis? Why or why not?

e. Based on your results, what would you conclude about the research question? Use every day, non-technical language.

I am curious as to how the "descriptive and inferential statistics physically mean and how they are used in a simulated "real-world" problem" portion should be answered. I spent a long time trying to come up with a way to solve this. Don't be shy. All ideas are welcome.

We survey 500 people about whether they prefer Star Wars or Star Trek, and 265 said that they prefer Star Wars. We want to test whether the percentage of people who prefer Star Wars differs from half. Use What would a type 1 error be in this situation (hint: write out your null and alternative hypotheses first)? **SHOW WORK A We say that the proportion that prefers Star Wars differs from 0.5, and it does. B We say that the...

I am curious about how many hours per week my students spend on their online coursework. So, I surveyed 9 of my students on how many hours per week they spend on my online PSY 230 course. According to a survey of online college students (in all courses), students studied an average of 9 hours a week for a 3-credit course. I assume that the national study time scores are normally distributed, and I set the significance level at α...

The evil Empire from Star Wars is running a factory that manufactures droids. The factory is powered by a heat engine, which uses a hot reservoir at 650 Kelvin and a cold reservoir at 450 Kelvin, and which (somehow!) operates at the theoretical maximum eciency for a heat engine. The Empire must supply the engine with 1000 kilojoules of heat for every droid it wants to produce. A group of rebels decide to sabotage the factory. They manage to cool...

Matt is an ardent fan of the Star Wars movie series. When the latest episode of the series was released on DVD, he was one of the first customers to buy a copy for $50 from a retail store. He was not happy with the quality of the DVD. The pictures of a few scenes in the movie is grainy and blurry. Apart from this issue, the DVD plays smoothly. He brought the DVD back to the retail store and...

May 4th is commonly referred to as “Star Wars” day due to the statement of “May the Fourth be with you” and its aural similarity to “May the force be with you.” Within the Star Wars franchise, those who are imbued with the ability to manipulate the force can, after time, manipulate their physiology to reduce their breathing rate and induce bradycardia (reduced heart rate). This can be explained by specialized molecules called “midichlorians” controlling the autonomic nervous system. Assuming...

My preference satisfies the law of diminishing MRS, and I am indifferent between two bundles: (9;10) and (10;9). 1 a) Can you say anything about whether the bundle (20;5) is more or less preferred than the bundles (9;10) and (10;9)? b) How would your answer to a) change if I also mentioned to you that I was indi⁄erent between (20;5) and (21;3)?

Why was Eio eager to promote the subsidiary initiative of licensing Star Wars characters for LEGO toys? Why was there so much resistance from the headquarters initially?
