World history has witnessed various pandemics which lead to major damages and disastrous situations for many countries in a single period. The three popular pandemics in the history of the world impacting several countries including the United States are:
I. The Black Death
Origin: The Black Death was a global pandemic that impacted Europe and Asia. It traveled from Europe to Asia. The disease later struck China, India, Persia, Syria, and Egypt. It started from the dead and ill people over a trading ship which was stained in blood, puss, and strange swellings to sailors leading to fevers, illness, and deaths. This Black Death happened due to a germ in people, it used to spread from one person to another and later to the animals.
The number of people killed: 50 Million people died all over the world due to the Black Death.
Negative economic impact on nations: several nations like Europe and America got strongly impacted by the Black Death as the trading was stopped which used to happen through ships. The sailors were kept isolated and in quarantine for 30 to 40 days which led to the loss of perishable goods and commodities. Causing further losses to the economies and it took several years to cope up with the economic impacts of Black Death.
YELLOW FEVER PANDEMIC
Origin: Yellow fever broke out in Philadelphia in 1793. It was also known as the American Plague. It came to America through refugees who fled to Philadelphia through a yellow fever pandemic in the Caribbean. It was a viral disease that started with fever and muscle pain. Which led to jaundice, yellow vomiting, and internal bleeding. This virus used to spread through mosquitoes.
The number of people killed: At the end of the pandemic, five thousand people were dead in America.
Negative economic impact on nations: Deaths of a large number of people and delays in making vaccines and introducing the delayed medical mechanism led to a major economic loss to many countries. Because people of every class were dying due to this disease shaking the economic balances and businesses all over the world.
THE ASIAN FLU PANDEMIC 1957-1958
Origin: The Asian flu originated in China through wild ducks and spread to America and many other countries. Later a vaccine called H2N2 was introduced which slowed down the spread of disease. This flu was a virus that triggered the pandemic situation in the world in 1957. This virus used to cause fever, body chills, cough, weakness, etc. in the patient.
The number of people killed: Over 1 Million people died due to this pandemic.
Negative economic impact on nations: Trade bans on Poultry farms in many countries including the United States of America which led to major losses to nations all over the world.
