How should lab samples be packaged for shipment?

Solutions

Expert Solution

For the Lab samples,Generally we use the triple packaging method for the shipment.

  • Primary receptacle
  • secondary packaging
  • Outer packaging.

Let we discuss these components of packaging:

1) Primary receptacle - In this step,we use the watertight containers like - snap-on containers,  taped glass or plastic jars and push on lid for the liquid specimens fo additional seal.If you use the multiple lab samples, they must be wrapped individually or separated from each other to prevent contact between them. which will increase there safety.

2) Secondary Packaging - In this step, we used the watertight seal tight bag, screw cap. Which gives a lab samples a second layer of safety. also, in this step we placed a cotton balls paper towels or the super absorbent packet between two lab samples.so, that they can't damage each other.

3) Outer packaging - This is the third and last step of the packaging.where we use the corrugated boxes, plastic boxes or the fiberboard boxes for the shipment of lab samples. these boxes are appropriately sized for the samples.

Generally, we don't use the Paperbox and chipboards for lab samples for the shipment.

To save money, lab usually merges blood samples for test. Samples from multiple people will be tested only once, if the result is negative (i.e. no virus, every criterion is in the normal range, etc.), then all these people tested are healthy. If the result is positive (at least one person from this batch whose blood sample is abnormal), then these samples are tested one-by-one. Suppose all samples are taken independently. If the probability that for a person to get...

Group of engineers in a steel company should decide whether or not a shipment of steel meets the required yield strength of 3235 psi. A random sample of 100 specimens is selected with a computed mean of 3210 psi which is following normal distribution. The variance of the population is 25600 psi. In this case, the shipment would be rejected only if the mean strength in the sample is significantly less than 3235 psi with the significance level of α...
