: We will be looking closely at deontology this week, as well as utilitarianism, and we will be discussing the basis of morality. Deontology is just a means of understanding normative morality. You can do this by applying such things as Kantian Absolutism or Divine Command Theory to problems of a moral nature. This week I want you to use the readings for the week to help you create an argument for or against the culture of the N. discussed in Brockmeier's, "The Jesus Stories." What can you say of them as people and of their philosophy? What would be their collective sense of morality? What does Brockmeier hint that it is? **10 or so well-rounded sentences are required for your initial posting**
There is a perspective that morality of an action is defined by the action itself. Consequences of that action has nothing to do with defining the concept of morality. If an action is right then it will be considered as moral. This is not right in every situation.
Lets take an example. We know that following rules of society is related with morality. There is a man whose son is injured badly. He over speeds his car and also jumps traffic signal just to ensure the safe reach of his son to hospital so that his life can be saved.
Morality of an action depends on situation. We should analyse the situation before declaring an action moral or immoral. Lets take another example. Killing a person from enemy country in war becomes a matter of pride but the same action is a crime in our daily routine life.
Morality of an action depends on circumstances. Utilitarianism says that if an action produces good consequences then the action will be considered as right and full of morality. This is also a wrong perception.
Good consequences are related with our own pleasure. It means that if some actions are producing pleasure then those action will be considered as moral. This can not be claimed as right. Suppose there is a person who feels rejoice in listening music in a loud sound at night.
This may provide him pleasure and he may consider this act as moral but infringing other people's comfort can not be considered as an appropriate action. Our actions should not harm other people by any mean.
We can not justified an action because it is giving us a sense of pleasure. We can declare an action appropriate and moral only if it is suitable according to the situations and it is not causing threat to someone by any means.
