Define the term compliance and describe three techniques that rely on compliance in our everyday lives and how they work

Solutions

Expert Solution

Compliance refers to the amount of obedience or acceptance a person has towards a request. This request could be from a law, norm or even from a friend. There are three major techniques such as the foot in the door technique, the Door in the Face Technique and the Low-Ball Technique. Foot in the door technique suggests that if someone agrees to a small request, they may well agree to a large request. So, people ask for something easy first and then throw the bigger one followed by the small one which force people comply or agree with the latter too. The door in the face technique suggests that if one refuse a large request, one may accept a small request because they might find it relatively easy. Finally the low ball technique suggests that if someone agrees to buy something at a given price, one would also buy it for a high price. This is because the person has already taken the buying decision and it’s very unlikely that the person would change their mind.
