How would you compare the Japan Fukushima accident with what happened in Chernobyl? Some say it is of the same order.
Would you agree? Were there any major differences?
What can you say about the chemistry of the processes?

Both Japan Fukushima accident and Chernobyl disasters were energy accidents in nuclear power plant. While Fukushima accident accident was initiated by natural disaster- tsunami followed by the earthquake that occurred on 11th march 2011 in tohoku. It led to equipment failure in power plant that eventually led to loss of coolant followed by nuclear melting and release of radioactive materials.
In the Chernobyl disaster,on 26 of April 1986 , a sudden power surge occurred in the said Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant . A sudden spike in power led to huge explosions and fire. The reactor vessel ruptured as the consequence thereby releasing large quantities of radioactive fuel into the atmosphere. The graphite moderator was exposed to air and ignited and the radioactive material got released .This was sort of man-made disaster, due to power surge ,when an emergency shut down of the power plant was attempted.
