How do feel you would respond if that sensation happened to you suddenly? What would you think was happening?
Sensations like touch, hot, cold, pain etc are the type of sensations that a human body can identify easily. Skin is the major organ helps in identifying these sensory signals. The skin is the largest organ of human body which consist of so many receptors.these receptors helps in identifying the sensations like touch, pain, cold, hot etc,the receptors will receive the information from the environment and later changes these informations into electrical signals and transfer them to the central nervous system and brain.the epidermis and dermis( the layers of the skin ) consist of many of the receptors responsible for identifying toucg sensation. The receptors in the dermis and epidermis can identify pain sensation, temperature, cold pressure, friction etc.
There are various receptors in skin namely thermoreceptors(they helps to recognize temperature variation),nociceptors(helps to identify pain),etc. When these receptors are stimulated they generate action piotential and these action potentials will send signals to spinal cord and the brain.
When the body or extrimity is exposed to a sudden sensation like pain, extreme hot and cold, the individual will suddenly pull his hand or extrimity back. That sudden reaction is known as withdrawl reflex. This is an immediate response to a unfavourable stimulus, especially to pain, extreme hot etc. This reflex will helps flexor muscles and the extensor muscle in tha extrimity to cause sudden withdrawal from the stimuli. This is purely a motor activity.
