  2. Calculate principal stresses and maximum shear stress.
  3. Check if the specimen fails due to normal stress or shear stress.
  4. If calculated maximum normal or shear stress < yield stress, the design is safe
  5. If factor of safety (FoS) is considered then calculated maximum normal or shear stress < yield stress/FoS, the design is safe
