The Path to Good Ethics Starts in Human Resources. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Please explain in detail and provide examples.
I agree to the fact that the path to Good Ethics Starts in Human Resources because the HR department is the vital department in the organization that bridges the gap between the organization and the potential employees by hiring and managing the right candidate for the job. HR professionals influence the ethics of people in an organization by setting the standards and procedures that cultivate positive ethics in the organization as it is the duty of the HR manager to handle the situations in an ethical way making sure that everyone in the organization is treated equally with good morals and values. If not handled properly such situations may even damage the company’s reputation and financial sustainability irrespective of the size of the organization. For example, Enron Corporation had a lengthy code of ethics, but the culture fostered by the company’s compensation and performance review system showed that unethical behaviors were tolerated in many cases. Hence the Human Resource is ethically significant in being the locus of a huge number of, ethically-relevant policies and practices, and also creates the mechanism or path through which organizational culture is built.
