Expert Solution

at rest, typical neuron has a resting potential of -60 to -70 milli volts across the membrane. at this moment potassium ion concentration will be higher in side the cell and sodium ion will be higher outside the cell membrane.

when the stimulus (pressure, sound, heat etc) reaches the resting membrane causes ion gated channels results in pumping of sodium ions inside.

action potential stages: 1. Resting State 2. Threshold 3. Depolarization 4. Repolarization 5. Recovery (refractory) Period 6. Back to Resting State
