Watch the case study videos on Gerald. Consider the symptoms of schizophrenial and find examples of these symptoms in Gerald’s behavior. What symptoms seem to be predominant in his case? What approach or methods might you use in order to calm a client like Gerald?
Gerald has been shown to be having paranoid schizophrenia. He had been in his early twenties where, he had been seen to have psychotic breaks.mhe had started to be having paranoid delusions. He thought that his boss wanted to be killing him. He had been an example of a refractory patient, who, did not respond to the treatment. He shows symptoms of seeing visions, hearing voices, and communication in non abstract languages.
Since he seems to be attached with his mother, so much so that he would always want her to be around. This would mean that the best chances of his recovery would only occur if his mother becomes the greatest support. His mother could contribute heavily to his treatment, and in order to calm him down it would be required that his mother be present. He might get intimated by the bunch of rs and think that they are there to harm him in some or the other manner.
Hence, in his mother’s presence, he needs to be made sure that the doctors are there to make his life better. It is required that the doctors should be taking care that he should trust them, and only then he might become calm.
