Project management knowledge comprises of the areas of project management that are to be thoroughly known to understand the project and execute it efficiently. The areas of project management knowledge can be described as follows:
1. Quality- under this area emphasis is laid on the quality of the work deliered in the project. If the project is compelted within the time and budget but does not meet quality standards then it will be considered a faliure. Hence comliance with the quality standards is essential.
2. Team selection (human resources)- human resource forms the most essential rsource which is required for project completion. Selecting an efficient and capabple team and making sure that their pefroamnce throughout the project is as per the project demand is vital for effective execution og the project
3. Communications- Project comprises of a number of people working together and involved as stakeholders. Communication is one tool that can help in putting the efforts of everyone in a productive direction. Communication is an essential area whcih needs to be managed for a good project management.
4. Risk- No project will be free from risks and hence risks are identified and categorized and prioritized. Based on this plans are formed to reduce them or face them and not let them effect the project adversly.
5. Procurement- promcurement deals with the purchasing and dealing with subcontractors and suppliers. This has to be managed effeicntly to keep the project in budget and get the best deliverables for quality work at the project.
6. Start-up- This involves the steps taken to initiate the project. The plans made based on the resources and requirements of the clients, development of project charter and asigning the management roles are functions of this area.
7. Scope- This includes all the work to be done in the project. It defines all the tasks and also has a work breakdown structure which helps everyone to understand the scope of work and their approvals from the stakeholder.
8. Time- Under this area the time required for completing the project and time invested on each task is determined. Schedules are made such that each work is done on time and thus it helps in completing the whoel project timely.
9. Cost- It involves the budgeting of the project. The budget is assigned for the project and monitored and reported at every level to make sure that the project is being completed within the budget assigne for it.
