Reasons that people disagree about public issues that involve science and technology
The majority of the people disagree about the public issues that involve science and technology are mainly since that the people are less willing to practice critical thinking and get out of their comfort zones to think about the problems and trends in the field of science and technology. There are always conflicting topics in this context and this lead to debates and disagreements among the different members of the society.
The society a whole have many notions about the evolving nature of science and also how it can create social issues and health problems and threat to the value system along with environmental damage. There are bound to be disagreements because not all sections of the society even though being"public issues" actually face these issues on daily basis whereas another section would be at a constant threat to these issues. Social demarcation and people's unwillingness to change are the major reasons for the conflicts and disagreements. The large differences between the educated and the uneducated, social and economic disparities are another leading cause. The cultural background of the particular population and the level of development of the same population can affect how the people view these issues and there would be differences in opinion ,taking into account this factor. Creating awareness and providing specific solutions can help the people gain access to information which will reduce these disagreements to some extent. Use of mass media for this purpose is also found to be effective. Explanation of the risks and benefits will also aid in passing on information.
